Welcome to Hoxford
Aug 25th, 2008 by shuttler
This weekend I popped in to my local comic shop with the intention of picking up the latest issue of Secret Invasion and something with a little less spandex.
I was so pleased when I spotted Welcome to Hoxford issue 1 by Ben Templesmith as I’ve been meaning to pick this up and haven’t got round to ordering it. This is why I love supporting local comic stores as you never quite know what your going to come out with.
Ben Templesmith has produced some of the darker great comics/novels notably Fell, Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse and the more famous 30 days of Night.
I love his art direction and I knew this was going to be a Dark gritty affair. Sure as anything I was introduced to a cannibal called ‘Gravy’ and the main character ‘Ray’ within the first few pages who has OCD for biting cell mates.
These, amongst other inmates are transfered to Hoxford a facility which has legislation to take part in new ‘methods’ to which lifers can carry out there sentances ‘happily’ at Hoxford.
I’m excited and disturbed to see how this will pan out and what the facility is all about, especially seeing as the governor of this facility is seen offering his guards ‘meat’ and telling them that something ‘fresher’ will arrive soon.

That sound really cool, I think I will actually be going to the local comic stores. I went before but I don’t know why I have not gone back more then just a couple times, I think life gets in the way, but no more
I think I’ll talk to them about the comics you talk about on the show too. Of course they might have them or just let me know were to get them, and I’ll definitely get what ever comic they might have that I never thought of getting before like you were saying in this blog post.
If your local comic store doesn’t have stuff you want, check out ebay as a lot of comic stores have ebay shops.
I wish I had the cash to buy issues, unfortunately I have to wait for The TPBs.
I’ve also started leaning towards slightly less super-hero centered comics, for example I’ve recently really gotten into the DMZ series. Phenomonal.
