Prince of Persia

Yesterday I found half an hour to finish up Prince of Persia which I had been playing over my Christmas holiday.
I hadn’t planned on picking up this title so was pleasantly surprised to find it amongst the presents on Christmas day.
I’ve played the Prince of Persia games before and even recall the first one back in the 80’s which I played on an Atari ST. It was really ground breaking to me and changed the way I thought about platformers.
The concept is still similar to the original. Prince finds himself in the middle of an adventure accidently and has to work his way out by jumping and leaping around the place. Of course this is all in glorious console 3D now with pretty cell shading and all looks much better.
Despite the repetitive nature of this game its lots of fun stringing together leaps and wall running in a fluid manner. The combat mechanic works well for me to with a mixture of combos and quick time events. Using the right attack for the right type of monster defense is a neat way to get you to think on the fly and makes it feel reasonably fast paced.
As you work through the lands and restoring the light back to them you will be required to find all the light seeds, something you can’t avoid as you need many of these to unlock new powers which give you new methods of acrobatics in order to access remote parts of the temple and heal more of the land.
All of this comes together really nicely with a high octane ending that requires you to string together the fluid acrobatics for a long time without missing a single button and without stopping.
A great little adventure coupled with anti-frustration mechanics that essentially stop you from dying and just lengthen the combat or return you to the start of a puzzle.
I look forward to a sequel!
